Experience the sensation of fallen snowflakes melting on your tongue. The whole family is bundled up in their winter jackets, mittens, ear muffs and snow pants and they’re headed out on a winter hike at a Dells area State Park. Mom is carrying a thermos of hot cocoa as she’s trudging her snowshoes through the snow. The family hike is one that can only be done in Winter. Pass by towering trees and maybe even see a deer grazing in the forest. As the path comes to an end, you lay down in the snow and wave your arms and legs to build the perfect snow angel. Devil’s Lake State Park, Mirror Lake State Park, and Rocky Arbor State Park are all short distances from Wisconsin Dells and provide great hiking, snowshoeing and cross country ski paths for a winter workout.
At the end of Broadway in Downtown Wisconsin Dells is Bowman Park. This park is home to a few Wisconsin Dells Festivals as well as a great place to play some outdoor sports! Because the park slopes downwards, kids can enjoy sledding on the hill and parents can easily keep an eye out on their kids.
If you’d like to step it up a notch from sledding, try snow tubing! Both Cascade Mountain and Christmas Mountain Village offer exhilarating tubing hills with lanes over 900 feet! Cascade offers an effortless moving sidewalk to get back up the hill with your tube and Christmas Mountain provides handle tows, so getting up the hill is a breeze. Race your friends and family to the bottom. The last person buys cocoa!
If tubing is not your thing, both hills, as well as Devil’s Head Resort offer dozens of different ski slopes for both beginners and pros. Please call in advance to find out local weather conditions.
Whether you base your Wisconsin Dells vacation around snow or other outdoor winter activities, it’s only here for a few months, so start planning your getaway today!
