Take in the beautiful color-changing leaves and fresh Wisconsin air on an Autumn Hike! There are many trails around Wisconsin Dells where you can explore the natural beauty of the area while getting some good old-fashioned exercise.
State Parks
Close to Wisconsin Dells are Rocky Arbor State Park, Mirror Lake State Park, and a few miles south, Devil’s Lake State Park. Each of these parks have their own maps and trails available and offer different kinds of scenery for all seasons of the year! Don’t forget, a Wisconsin State Park sticker is required for admission!
Downtown Wisconsin Dells
If you’re less into outdoor scenery and more into city or town views, this is the hiking path for you! stroll right through the heart of Downtown Dells past businesses, restaurants, shopping, attractions, and more. This hike is best to do in the morning before the downtown area gets too busy. If you want to add a little natural scenery, take a small detour down the River Walk, which starts between Wizard Quest and the Upper Dells Boat Dock and takes you along the Wisconsin River and towering pines that surround it.
Canyon Road
Enjoy woodland views and rolling hills right off Lake Delton along the 1.5 mile stretch of Canyon Road. In the mornings, you’ll see joggers, hikers, and bikers on the sidewalk and pass by Wisconsin Dells attractions such as Wild Rock Golf Course, Lost Canyon Tours, and Sundara Inn & Spa! This is the perfect morning hike if you’re staying at Baker’s Sunset Bay Resort!
Lake Delton Loop
If Canyon Road isn’t long enough for you, continue around the Lake and challenge yourself to the Lake Delton Loop! Once again, the blue waters of Lake Delton will take your breath away as you walk along its shores. About 5 miles, this hike offers farther distance as well as more incline challenges and some tougher terrain. Plus, part of the walk is down Highway 12 so you can see part of the village of Lake Delton as well.
Clara Ave
Just a block off of Wisconsin Dells Parkway, start your morning along the 1.5 mile sidewalk on Clara Avenue. From behind the Marriott SpringHill Suites down Clara Avenue until you reach the back of Mt. Olympus, you can enjoy running or walking on the wide paved sidewalk. This is a calming stretch, just a block off of the main parkway.
The weather over the next couple months is ideal for hiking so be sure to pack your tennis shoes on your next trip to Wisconsin Dells! If you’re going to hike, you might as well have some beautiful scenery to accompany you and The Dells has plenty to offer!
