Get an inside look at historic Wollersheim Winery during their Open House, Saturday March 7th, from 10am-4pm. This free event is open to the public and offers grapevine pruning, cooking with wine demonstrations, and winemaking talks. Visits through the winery’s modern fermentation facilities and historic underground aging cellars take place throughout the day, plus bottling line demonstrations and interactive displays are available for families to enjoy along a self-guided tour.
Event Highlights:
Wine Tasting – While you tour, taste a selection of wines including Wisconsin-grown Prairie Sunburst Red and multiple Platinum and Gold medal winner Prairie Fumé. Wollersheim Winery’s sparkling grape juice is available for the kids.
Brandy & Beyond – Winemaker Philippe and Distiller Tom will share what is behind the winery’s Brandy & Beyond. As they look to the future of their new distillery, they will talk about basic distilling terms and expand upon the future of Wollersheim’s distilled spirit products such as whiskey, bourbon, gin, apple brandy and pear brandy.
Grapevine Pruning – Observe pruning techniques for home grapevines as Wollersheim shares what they’ve learned about growing grapes in Wisconsin. The morning demonstration will begin upstairs in their Vineyard Room and conclude with a visit outside to their vineyard, where they’ll take you among the vines to show actual pruning. Saturday afternoon’s demonstration will only take place in the vineyard.
Cooking with Wine – Hear tips on cooking with wine and enjoy a taste as Executive Chef John Williams, UW Health, features Wollersheim’s White Port in his morning demonstration and the Winery’s Pinot Noir will be featured in the afternoon.
Fun for All Ages – Stops along Wollersheim Winery’s self-guided tour will offer unique opportunities to learn about growing grapes, distilling brandy, and the wildlife that visits their vineyards. Their bottling line will also be in action for you to see.
Food & Wine – Lunch items from local Wyttenbach Meats will be available for purchase from 11am to 3pm. Wollersheim’s wines can also be purchased by the glass during the event.
