Did you know that there’s a half-mile stretch of road in Downtown Wisconsin Dells that you could spend the day exploring while creating great family memories? From T-shirt & Souvenir Shops to amazing dining options, outdoor patios, arcades and free weekly live music, walking down Broadway in Downtown Wisconsin Dells is an experience like no other! For decades, Broadway has been home to many specialty candy and fudge stores, using recipes that have been passed down in families for many generations. The next time you’re making your way down Broadway, be sure to stop in one of these great candy shops and try this delicious chocolatey treat for yourself!
Dells Fudge Company and Original Wisconsin Dells Fudge have been using the same recipe since they opened in 1962. Each day, the cooks carefully paddle, cut, and package their fudge in small batches and using only the finest Wisconsin whipping cream and butter, chocolate, pure sugar cane, and real flavoring, extracts, and nuts. With the vertical “F-U-D-G-E” sign outside the storefront of Original Wisconsin Dells Fudge and the red & white overhang sign out front of Dells Fudge Company, it’s hard to miss these while strolling downtown
Known as the Largest Candy Store in Wisconsin, Goody Goody Gum Drop on Broadway features over a dozen different flavors of fudge as well as over 1,000 different kinds of other candy! Whether in the mood for chocolate vanilla swirl, cookies n cream, peanut butter, or even maple fudge, there’s a flavor for everyone! Goody Goody Gum drop also has locations at Timbavati Wildlife Park and the Wilderness Resort.
For over 50 years, Swiss Maid Fudge has been making their fudge out of copper kettles, in a process brought over from Europe. When visiting the store, you can watch the fudge and other candy being made fresh on their candy tables during your visit. Owner Jane Heller started working at age 14, making Fudge with her grandmother at Swiss Maid. Those same family recipes and creamy flavors are still used today!
When you walk through the Downtown area and see a storefront shaped like a Wisconsin dairy barn, you’ll know you’re at Wisconsin Dairyland Fudge! Be sure to try their Chocolate Dipped Fudge Pops and Orange Dreamsicle Fudge when visiting. All of their candy is made the old European way using copper kettles and cooked over gas-fired cast iron skillet. Wisconsin Dairyland Fudge can ship their fudge anywhere in the United States, so if you can’t make it to the Dells then hop online! None of their candies are “mass produced” and every package is freshly made upon being shipped out. That’s why they only ship their packages Monday-Wednesday.
If you’re not a fan of Fudge, then move on to the next blog. If you are, then be sure to visit one of the above Fudge Shoppes on your next visit to Wisconsin Dells!
