Whether you’re looking for a fun, wintertime activity, or frequently spend time on the ice, open skate and open hockey is always a good time for everyone! Open to the public at Poppy Waterman Ice Arena on Wednesday nights, you can lace up some skates and be ready for a memorable night!
Public skate begins at 6 p.m. and runs until 7:30 for only $3.50! Don’t have skates? No problem. Skate rental is also $3.50 and you have your choice of figure or hockey skates. To watch skaters is free, so if you’re not quite ready to hit the ice, no worries. Parents or friends can snap pictures from the stands while enjoying a delicious cup of hot cocoa from the snack bar. Skaters always range from newbies to experienced, so you’ll fit right in and have a blast no matter what your skill level is. An awesome vacation memory, your family and friends are sure to enjoy ice-skating in The Dells.
The puck drops at 7:45 and doesn’t leave the ice until 9:45 at open hockey. The cost is $5 and it’s recommended that those playing have some experience. The first 15 minutes are dedicated to warming up and then the game begins! It’s color jerseys versus white jerseys so make sure you bring both for these friendly but thrilling Wednesday night games. Pucks will fly so safety first; a helmet with half-shield or more is required in order to participate. So if you have hockey experience, strap up those pads and hit the ice at open hockey. Friends and family are welcome to watch but just keep an eye out for any wayward slap shots!
Skating at least once is practically a wintertime requirement and is a great way to have fun while being active! So if you’re visiting The Dells this winter, be sure to add Wednesday night open skate and hockey to the itinerary!
