Bye, Bye, Miss American Pie! Don McLean is coming to the Crystal Grand Music Theatre on September 23rd and Dells.com had the privilege of calling and interviewing this music icon. Turning 72 this year, we asked McLean about the upcoming show in Wisconsin Dells, his new Album, Botanical Gardens, and comments on his hit, “American Pie” being recently added to the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry. Read the full interview below.
Q.) “Have you been to the Dells before?”
A.) “I haven’t. The area sounds familiar. I know I’ve performed in other parts of Wisconsin. Summerfest in Milwaukee was a memorable one.”
Q.) “Is your show mainly for those of your generation, or is it a family affair?”
A.) “It’s completely a family affair. With younger fans, there are services out there like YouTube, where kids, teens, and adults can watch my shows from the 1970’s and 1980’s. It’s cool how with today’s technology, that is possible. It’s a total family atmosphere.”
Q.) “What kind of music should we expect with your new album, Botanical Gardens, coming out later this year?”
A.) “All of my songs are a little different. With “Wonderful Baby,” “Vincent,” “American Pie,” and the others, there’s not one specific mood or vibe I give off, and that’s really what to expect with my new album, Botanical Gardens.”
Q.) “American Pie was added to the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry earlier this year. Do you have any comments on that?”
A.) “I’m very happy with the amount of support from peers, fans, and friends that have helped me get to where I am. Everyone and everything that goes into each and every show. I love all the support that I get.”
