The Wisconsin Dells area is rich in state parks and forests, each offering different choices of activities. State parks near Wisconsin Dells include Mirror Lake State Park, Rocky Arbor State Park and Devil’s Lake State Park.
Mirror Lake covers more than 2000 acres and is just three miles from Wisconsin Dells. Half the lake is surrounded by beautiful sandstone bluffs, and offers excellent fishing, swimming and canoeing & kayaking. Dells Water Sports offers rentals for all your water recreational needs. There are also wooded campsites, picnic areas, a boat landing, and miles of biking, hiking and cross-country ski trails available.
The 244-acre Rocky Arbor State Park is only 1.5 miles from Wisconsin Dells. Pine trees and sandstone bluffs offer a cool escape to the picnicker or hiker in this summer park. There is a 1-mile self-guided nature trail, giving opportunity to observe birds and other wildlife. You may see deer, raccoons, squirrels, bats, and chipmunks. This Wisconsin Dells campground has showers, flush toilets, and electricity.
For the nature enthusiast, there are two State Natural areas close by. Hubert Creek Woods Natural Area lies between Rocky Arbor and Mirror Lake State Parks. Blackhawk Island State National Area is located just to the northeast of Rocky Arbor along the Wisconsin River.
Spectacular cliff scenery and many recreational activities make Devil’s Lake State Park extremely popular. This nearly 10,000-acre state park is 2 miles south of Baraboo and only about 20 minutes south of Wisconsin Dells. More people visit Devil’s Lake State Park annually (1.2 to 1.4 million) than any other state park in Wisconsin. The park is a perfect destination for Wisconsin Dells vacationers during the late spring, summer and fall. Visitors can swim in or boat on the clear, 360-acre spring-fed lake and hike or bike on over 29 miles of park trails. Devil’s Lake State Park is also a unit of the Ice Age National Scientific Reserve.
