Looking to spice up your long road trip to Wisconsin Dells with a little bit of pizzazz? Think about adding some games to the mix! We’ve already highlighted 5 games in our 5 Ways to Spice Up Your Road Trip to Wisconsin Dells blog post, and we’re looking to highlight more road trip fun with another edition!
1. Animal Name Game
Start by having the driver name an animal (tiger, elephant, bumblebee, etc). Then each person sitting clockwise has to name another animal that starts with the last letter of the previous animal named (no repeating). For example, if the driver says “dog”, the next person would have to name an animal that starts with the letter ‘g’ (such as goat). With older children, try playing the game with TV shows, movie titles or geographical categories (such as cities or countries). Best for ages 6 and up.
2. Twenty Questions
One person secretly thinks of a noun (object, animal, plant, etc.). The other players then take turns asking only yes-or-no questions, such as “Does it live in the water?” or “Does it have four legs?”. After the players have asked 20 questions, each player gets a chance to take a guess at identifying the secret noun. Great for ages 4 and up!
3. Secret Place Race
All you need is a map to play the Secret Place Race! Have a passenger choose a secret place on a map (can be a city, lake, street, etc.) and hand the map off to the other passengers. As soon as the other players have received the map, the secret place is revealed and the remaining players have 60 seconds to find the secret place on the map. This game is ideal for ages 7 and up.
4. I Spy
Who could pass up a classic game of I Spy? Have one person in the car choose an object around them. He/she then gives the other players in the car a clue by saying: “I spy with my little eye, something….” then offer a clue to the item such as “that’s the color blue” or “that starts with the letter ‘s'”. The person who guesses correctly gets to choose the next I Spy item. Be sure not to choose an item that whizzes by too quickly!
5. Fortunately-Unfortunately
If you are looking for a game that could have you laughing hysterically, try a round or two of Fortunately-Unfortunately. This game is geared towards teenagers and adults, and can lead to some pretty hilarious answers! Start by having someone state something that’s unfortunate, like “Unfortunately, we are all going to be stung by bees” or “Unfortunately, my left leg is falling asleep”. Have the next person finish with a fortunately statement, like “Fortunately, I brought enough bee-keeper suits for everyone” or “Fortunately, the remedy for sleeping legs is to wiggle your right pinky finger”. Be expecting some out of this world responses!
