It’s that transitioning time of year again where we’re all looking forward to spring, which is right around the corner, yet winter is still clinging on. So why not celebrate both occasions with a Spring Carnival and The 2014 Midwest Open at Cascade Mountain?!
Taking place Saturday, March 1st, enjoy fun on the slopes all day along with tons of other fun-filled activities and events at Cascade Mountain’s Spring Carnival! Bring in March and celebrate spring being on the horizon with a day outdoors enjoying what could be the last month of snow. On the list of events are plenty of games for kids, prizes, a vendor village, ski shop sale, and more. Welcome spring and kiss winter goodbye with a day full of family-friendly fun!
Also taking place on March 1st is the 2014 Midwest Open Rail Jam Competition! Skiers and riders welcome to compete. Come on out and show off your jibbing skills or relax and watch as experienced skiers and snowboarders showcase their talents. Taking place at 1:00 p.m., competitors have a chance to win $3,000 in prizes! Rossignal Snowboards and Nordica Skis are sponsoring prizes to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, as well as the top placing women’s competitor. There will also be a special prize by Velocity Moto & Snow.
Skiers and riders will be judged on style, difficulty and clean landing. Each competitor will get five runs at the rail features, with the top six best single scores going on to the finals. You can register online through February 28th for $15. You can also register the day of the event but the cost will go up to $20.
Competitors must check-in the day of the event between 9:30 a.m. and noon. At 10 a.m., the run will be open for practice until noon. Cascade Mountain would like to note that a helmet, lift ticket, and competitor registration will be required to enter any competition gates. There will be four classes: 16+ snowboard, 16+ ski, 15- snowboard, 15- ski, and possibly a women’s class if enough sign up.
