Planning a spring break getaway and looking to head to The Dells? Fantastic choice! Wisconsin Dells is an ideal and affordable getaway for families with endless activities for every age from the littlest tikes to the adults. We’ve compiled a guide for families who are spending spring break in The Dells for the first time.
Tip #1
Stay in a hotel with an indoor waterpark. Almost every resort, hotel and motel in The Dells has some type of indoor waterpark. Whether that’s a pool with several slides or a full-blown giant waterpark, you and the kids are going to appreciate having a thrilling place for indoor fun, just steps away from your room. For those parents with little ones, most places also have indoor kiddie pools, just be sure to double check and make sure! This way you know they’ll have fun too while you relax knowing they’re safe. However, if you find yourself staying someplace without an indoor waterpark, Kalahari Resort does sell day passes to their indoor waterpark so you can still spend a day splashing away with just a short drive!
Tip #2
Plan a day at an indoor theme park in your schedule and budget. Kalahari Resort and Great Wolf Lodge have indoor game rooms, theme parks and activities for a full day of fun that are open to the public! Knuckleheads Bowling and Indoor Amusement Park is an awesome choice as well. While this does cost extra regardless of where you’re staying, most of these places offer discounted deals when you purchase a full day pass.
Tip #3
Save some of your spring break/summertime shopping for once you’re on vacation. Tanger Outlet Mall is full of your favorite name brands at outlet prices! Your kids and teens will love it too as there are stores catered to their age groups as well. From silly t-shirt shops to chic boutiques, the shops Downtown Dells are relatively affordable as well. Plus, you can spend an entire day Downtown Dells where you’ll find delicious restaurants, endless shopping for all ages and styles, exciting attractions, tasty candy shops, and more! We recommend planning a day or two of shopping at Tanger and Downtown Dells into your schedule as well.
Tip #4
Catch a movie! Dessert Star Cinema is always playing the latest flicks and this is great option for families with a variety of tastes. You can split into groups and watch a heart-stopping action flick, a sweet romantic comedy, or a kid-friendly animated feature. Another option would be to rent a cabin with a screening room so you can pop some popcorn, order some pizza and snuggle in for a cozy family night! Some of the resorts host movie nights too. Which leads us to…
Tip #5
Family fun events around your resort! Keep an eye on your hotel’s events calendar for their weekly happenings. Many of the larger waterpark resorts have family friendly activities happening all day long. Ask the front desk when you check in for an activity schedule of everything that’s going on during your stay.
Tip #6
Make reservations. Most of the dinner and themed restaurants get booked up quickly during spring break season, especially on the weekends. If you and your family have your eye on a certain dinner location or a specialty seating spot like the train table at Buffalo Phil’s, plan your dining choices in advance and make reservations to guaranteed a seat, especially if you’re with a large group.
Tip #7
Celebrating something more than spring break? Have a birthday in the family or an anniversary of some kind? Talk to your hotel in advance and see what discounts or celebration packages they offer; most will decorate your hotel room for the occasion! Many Dells attractions and restaurants offer birthday and celebration deals too so notify them as well.
Tip #8
Ask for a room on the top floor. With hotels being so packed, noise is almost a guarantee, requesting a top floor room will help to cut out some of the loudness.
Tip #9
Ask the front desk for coupons upon check in. Many of the hotels either sell coupons or give them for free if you ask! From discounts at restaurants and attractions to deals right at your resort, it’s definitely worth asking. Also, check out dells.com and order a coupon book to be delivered before your trip or picked up at our office once you arrive in The Dells.
Tip #10
Pack some groceries and snacks. This is especially vital if you’re staying in a cabin or villa. With a full kitchen at your disposal, why not cook a few meals? This means you’ll get time alone as a family as well as save some money. The Dells also has a Wal-Mart and grocery store (Zinke’s) if you prefer to shop once you arrive.
Tip #11
