Running Paths in Wisconsin Dells Area

This blog post was published on May 9, 2016 and may contain outdated information.

Lace up those sneakers and hit the trails for some stunningly scenic runs in Wisconsin Dells! From downtown to lakeside and through the woods, The Dells running paths offer whatever views and challenges you prefer.

Canyon Road

Many resorts and hotels are located right on this road or else very close by making this running path easily accessible to visitors! Built only a few years ago, this new path is a popular choice for runners and walkers alike. Enjoy woodland views or the rolling hills of Wild Rock Golf Course on one side of you as Lake Delton glitters on the other. There are a few hills involved so while the path itself is nice and smooth, it definitely offers some challenges. About 1.5 miles one-way, this run is ideal for those seeking a great yet fairly quick workout.

Lake Delton Loop

If Canyon Road isn’t long enough for you, continue around the Lake and challenge yourself to the Lake Delton Loop! Once again, the blue waters of Lake Delton will take your breath away as you run along its shores. About 5 miles, this run offers farther distance as well as more incline challenges and some tougher terrain. Plus, part of the run is down Highway 12 so you can see part of the town of Lake Delton as well.

Broadway

If you’re less into outdoor scenery and more into city or town views, this is the running path for you! Run right through the heart of Downtown Dells past businesses, restaurants, shopping, attractions, and more. This run is best to do in the morning before the downtown area gets too busy. If you want to add a little natural scenery, take a small detour down the River Walk, which starts between Wizard Quest and the Upper Dells Boat Dock and takes you along the Wisconsin River and towering pines that surround it.

Clara Ave

Just a block off of Wisconsin Dells Parkway, run along the newly paved 1.5 mile sidewalk on Clara Avenue. Behind the Marriott SpringHill Suites down Clara Avenue until you reach the back of Mt. Olympus, you can enjoy running or walking on the wide newly paved sidewalk. This is a calming stretch, just a block off of the main parkway.

Devil’s Lake

Located just 15 minutes outside of The Dells, Devil’s Lake State Park allows you to choose from wide variety of running trails depending on your needs! Use the trail map guide to pick the right route based on distance, incline, scenery and more. Do you prefer a lake view or woods view? Want to take on steep hills or none at all? The options truly are endless. 18 different trails await you varying from 0.1 miles to 13.7. So what are you waiting for? Go enjoy some of the most spectacular, natural sites the state of Wisconsin has to offer all while getting a fantastic workout!

The weather over the next couple months is ideal for running so be sure to pack your tennis shoes on your next trip to Wisconsin Dells! If you’re going to run, you might as well have some beautiful scenery to accompany you and The Dells has plenty to offer.

Comments

Is there a map of these running paths so I can see what I will be running? When I look it up on Google maps all I see are roads without any paths or sidewalks.

Hello Sarah,
Each of the great running spots listed in this blog should have their own map of where you can enjoy their great running trails. The beauty and scenery is different at each location, so each year I try to run at as many of these as I can!

How can I access the maps for the running routes?

Hello Allison,
Devil’s Lake State Park has it’s own maps at the park. Canyon Road and the Lake Delton Loop are mainly enjoyed from the sidewalks surrounding the lake. And the Broadway/Downtown Wisconsin Dells River Walk starts on the 100 block of Downtown, by River Walk Pub.
