Here’s just a portion of the area fireworks this July 4th!

Wilderness Resort Fireworks – Wilderness Resort, 511 E Adams Street, Lake Delton
Wisconsin Dells 4th of July Extravaganza – Wisconsin Dells Municipal Pool, Superior Street, Wisconsin Dells
Chula Vista Fourth of July Celebration – Chula Vista Resort, 2501 River Road, Wisconsin Dells

Continue your Wisconsin Dells firework experience with a Saturday, July 5th event, Dells on Fire - Christmas Mountain Village, Wisconsin Dells

All of the mentioned firework locations will begin launching their firework shows at dusk. Bring a chair or blanket, most places have little/no seating available. Don’t forget to pack a camera! Although many people shy away from taking firework photography due to lackluster results, you can capture firework images this year with these helpful hints!

1. Use a tripod.

Because of the darker night skies and longer shutter exposures, tripods are the most effective way of holding your camera perfectly still. The longer shutter exposure to capture the beauty of the firework also captures any other movement of the camera (creates a blurry-looking photograph).

2. Perfect your shutter speed, aperture, & ISO.

Shutter Speed – Anywhere from 1-15 seconds. Longer exposures will capture a longer period of time. Try switching up your shutter speed if you don’t like the look of your images.
Aperture – f/8 to f/16 is a great place to start
ISO – ISO 100 to help create a clearer image

3. Framing your shot.

Framing the image may be one of the hardest pieces of taking firework photography. Because you have no way of knowing how high each firework is going, it’s best to keep your camera zoomed out until you can hone-in on their location in the sky.

4. Switch it up.

Both horizontal and vertical compositions work well for firework photography. Because of their vertical nature, you can capture a firework from blast-off to boom! Try and capture single fireworks with a vertical framing, and the coveted finale in a horizontal frame.

5. Turn the flash off.

Be sure to keep the flash off when photographing fireworks. The flash will create a quick exposure to stop time and doesn’t translate well with firework photography. Try taking one photo with the flash on and you’ll see what we mean!

6. Don’t get frustrated!

The key is not to get frustrated. Often times it takes several photos to get the settings correct! The great thing about digital photography is the capability to keep shooting images without worrying about filling up film. Digital photography also allows you to view the images to ensure their quality BEFORE sending them to get developed. Anyone remember the good ol’ days of disposable cameras? You never knew what would come out after developing!

Happy Independence Day everyone!

Easter Seals 2014 Golf Outing for Kids Preview

One of the best ‘feel good’, premiere charity golf outings of the year, the Easter Seals Wisconsin Golf Outing for Kids is quickly approaching on June 24th, 2014, and is sure to put a smile on your face! All event proceeds are donated to support Easter Seals Wisconsin’s camps for children and adults with disabilities. Hosted by Pat and Barry Richter, 2014 marks the 18th year of the golf outing’s success, and it aims to be one of the largest yet! Last year, the event had a turnout of nearly 230 individuals, and included various former Badger athletes as well as other Wisconsin notables!

Over the past 17 years, Golf Outing for Kids has raised nearly 2 million dollars benefiting Easter Seals Camp Wawbeek and the Wisconsin Elks/Easter Seals Respite Camp. Camp Wawbeek in the Wisconsin Dells is the oldest, continuously-operating Easter Seals Camp in the United States. The camp provides a barrier-free, inviting environment for kids and adults with disabilities to challenge themselves, achieve new goals, and build brighter, more independent futures while enjoying a ‘traditional’ camping experience. Campers are encouraged to relax, be themselves, develop new friendships, and create long-lasting memories in the serenity the outdoors has to offer. With help from previous Golf Outings and support from the community, Camp Wawbeek will be opening a new pool for the campers this 2014 summer season, replacing a pool that was built nearly half-a-century ago! According to most campers, their visit to the camp is the highlight of their year!

Easter Seals Wisconsin is currently registering teams and sponsors for their June 2014 event. Golfers can expect to tee-off for a cause at both Trappers Turn Golf Club and Wild Rock Golf Club in the Dells to show their support. Both are exquisite, world-class courses that are featured in our recent Wisconsin Dells Golf Courses blog. The event will have you getting autographs and photos with the pros, meeting fun new people, and participating in golf contests. Contests include ‘Hole-in-One’, the ‘Circle Game’, and ‘Beat the Pro’. In addition, players vie for the title of ‘Longest Drive’, ‘Longest Putt’ and ‘Closest to the Pin’. Following golf, participants head to Easter Seals Wisconsin Camp Wawbeek where they are able to mingle with current campers and hard-working staff and see what makes the camp so special.

Lives are being changed substantially due to the effort and support of everyone involved in the Easter Seals Wisconsin yearly golf outing. You can truly feel good about participating in this fun, world-class golfing event.

For more information regarding the event, view the event brochure. If you are looking to register for the golf outing, please contact Kris Ackley at (608) 237-1370 or email

Can’t make it to the event this year, but still want to help donate to a great cause? Purchase a 2-for-1 Golf Card and the proceeds will benefit the Easter Seals Camp Wawbeek! With the card, you’ll receive 2-for-1 green fees at 24 of the area’s hottest courses and have access to over $950 in savings!

Andy North and Friends Event

Andy North and his wife Sue are extremely passionate about what they do. Their hard work and dedication has paid off immensely in a collaborative effort to raise money and awareness for cancer research at the UW Carbone Cancer Center. Andy, Sue, family and friends have teamed up in the Dells with the Kalahari Resort and Trapper’s Turn Golf Course to help find a cure by raising over $900,000 this past weekend.

The annual event in the Dells raises nearly $1,000,000 dollars each year for the UW Carbone Cancer Center.  UW Carbone Cancer Center is recognized as the only comprehensive cancer research center in the state of Wisconsin and leads all other federal facilities in cancer research. The 6th annual event took place Sunday (6/1) and Monday (6/2) and was once again a huge success. Like previous years, pro-athletes and celebrities gathered at the Kalahari Resort and Trappers Turn Golf Course to support the cause.

The two-day long event featured an extraordinary, semi-formal cocktail dining experience on Saturday evening at the Kalahari Resort coupled with both silent and live auctions, and a star-studded photo booth. This year, Andy North and friends took it to the next level and made it easy for attendees to bid on silent auction items with a mobile bidding option. The silent auction opened online several days before the event, and allowed people who couldn’t attend this year’s event to bid.

Sunday gave way to a mouthwatering breakfast for registered attendees Screen Shot 2014-05-30 at 2.32.01 PMbefore hitting the greens at Trapper’s Turn golf course. This star-studded event had participants mixing and mingling with some of the best sports professionals in the world. Annika Sörenstam, one of the greatest female golfers of her generation, and perhaps the best of all time visited and swapped tips with guests. Robin Yount, a Major League Baseball player who spent his entire career with the Milwaukee Brewers spent time mingling and sharing his stories with guests. What Wisconsinite wouldn’t know Bo Ryan or Aaron Rodgers? They both graced the list of celebrities that attended the event to help raise money for cancer research.

  • Congratulations to Andy North and Friends for a successful weekend fundraiser! We are proud to host your event here in the beautiful scenery of Wisconsin Dells!

Golfing for Gilly

Surrounded by family and friends, Brian G. Gilbertson “Gilly” or “BG”, of Lake Delton, Wisconsin passed away peacefully at age 38 on February 1, 2014 from injuries he sustained in a snowmobile accident on January 21, 2014. He will forever be missed, but his fun-loving spirit lives on in many ways in the Dells.

Brian was born in Baraboo, Wisconsin during a harsh snowstorm in February, 1975. That didn’t stop him from loving the outdoors! He grew up loving the wilderness and all it had to offer. If he wasn’t trekking his hunting gear through the Wyoming landscapes he was casting his rod and reel in Canada. He could often be found riding his motorcycle through the winding mountain roads, and boating, snowmobiling, and skiing in the places he considered home.

Brian was a 10-year veteran firefighter with the Delton Fire Department, but like most parents, his most cherished and proud accomplishment was fathering his son. A dedicated son, father, soulmate and brother, Brian’s smile brightened up every room he entered and every soul he touched. His laughter could be heard roaring through the Dells canyons for miles!

Please join us at the 1st Annual Brian Gilbertson Memorial Benefit on June 19th, 2014 hosted by Christmas Mountain Village. The event will run from 1pm-7pm. A $50 entry fee gets you 9 holes of golf (including cart), and access to the silent auction, raffle prizes, live auction, door prizes, free shuttle and more!

Not able to attend? Think about sponsoring a hole! Your $100 donation will help aid the Brian Gilbertson Memorial Benefit Trust Fund.

So get out this summer and golf for a cause, the Brian Gilbertson Memorial Benefit would love to have you. Click here for more information regarding the event and access to the RSVP.

Fishing Tips

Walleyes are one of the most sought-after game fish of the spring spawning season, and a delicious addition to any dinner table. They are known to be sensitive to light and noise, and have a reputation for spooking easily. A little patience will reap BIG rewards while fishing the weedy beds! Equip yourself with an assortment of colorful jigs, live minnows, or crank-style baits. The best time to catch a hungry walleye is during the warmest afternoon hours. Warm temperatures help to speed metabolism and make for more active fish!

Crappie fishing is a great spring activity too! Male crappies strike at anything that comes near their nest. During their spring spawning, it’s best to fish near vegetation on the shoreline. Once the spawning is done and the warm summer sun beats down on the water, crappies can be found in deeper water pockets and sunken logs. Think about bringing some small minnows, it seems to be the crappie’s favorite!

Looking to land a monster this summer? Musky fishing offers up quite a thrill! Patience is key when it comes to landing the king of the lake! Musky are generally a solitary fish with picky taste. There are oodles of bait choices out there, and several guides in the area would be happy to show you the hotspots!

Be sure to check fishing and weather reports before you head out. Bring the appropriate gear, be SAFE, and don’t forget to have fun!
